Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat 2010

Joseph
There was a completely different atmosphere in the auditorium this evening compared to last week when 'Hairspray' was on the Theatre Royal stage. This colourful and well written show returns to Plymouth after 3 years, with newcomer Keith Jack as Joseph. Keith was the runner up on the BBC television series and Joseph search 'Any Dream Will Do'. Keith is the best Joseph you will ever see. His pure and traditional Joseph led the colourful and mostly up-lifting show. Henry Metcalfe was an exceptional Jacob/Potiphar and Trina Hill as the Narrator led the cast in song. Henry Metcalfe’s believable performance and stunning singing voice made us all believe he was the O.A.P of the bible while the young and energetic cast danced and sung through Lloyd Webber’s biblical songs and brought life and smile to the audience’s faces. The orchestra was somewhat quiet, and lacked atmosphere - a small band could have filled the auditorium a bit more. But a strong cast led the show, backed up by the local Plymkids choir. The colourful and loving setting brought extreme colour and life to the Theatre Royal stage and told the story in its own way, with vibrant palm trees and Egyptian scenes catching your eye throughout the evening. The audience stood up at the end of the show and clapped along to three encores, which roared through the auditorium and brought smiles to everyone’s face and it was good to hear Keith Jack sing his version of 'Any Dream Will Do'. What drives the show however is Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s writing and the genius spectacle of this masterpiece. You’re in for an uplifting, cheerful and fun evening.
