IdeasLAB

IdeasLAB is our regular scratch night, which takes place once per season in The Lab. We offer artist and companies a chance to share early-stage work and receive detailed feedback from the audience.

PlayLAB

PlayLAB is an annual short play festival in The Lab, showcasing new and experimental work, made by directors based in the South West. We offer directors commissions to develop new ideas with support from Theatre Royal Plymouth.

The Lab Company

The Lab Company is a year-long training programme for early career artists in the South West, between the ages of 18-30. The Lab Company receive a programme of workshops delivered by the nation’s best theatre companies, before forming a company and developing an original show in The Lab.

The Lab Company takes place from September to July on Thursday mornings and Fridays and includes two full-time intensive development weeks during the year. We pay all Lab Company members’ expenses.

The project provides intensive training with the Theatre Royal Plymouth team, access to our facilities, professional advice, and further artist development opportunities.

If you want to develop your craft further and collaborate with other theatre makers to develop bold and original new work, The Lab Company is for you.

RunRagged Logo

RunRagged

This past year’s Lab Company was RunRagged Theatre company. Made up of ten emerging actors, directors, production managers, designers, dancers, and writers, RunRagged formed in September 2018 and had since been working together to develop their skills and create new work.

Follow their journey as The Lab Company on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Their debut production, [ This is a Play ], played in The Lab from Tuesday 16th to Saturday 20th July, to great audience response.

We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for RunRagged!

Practitioner Development Scheme

The Practitioner Development Scheme is a programme of paid training and development opportunities in workshop facilitation. You will be provided the opportunity to work with and be trained by professional practitioners, have access to complimentary or concessionary tickets for performances to inform your practice, and work with a diverse range of young people and communities.

Recruitment takes place once a year. Please send us an email for more information about the scheme and the next application date.

Next Steps Network

The Next Steps Network is a brand new programme that offers industry insight and mentorship to local young people aged 16–20 who are hoping for a career in theatre but are unsure of how to make it a reality.

Whether you’re at the very beginning of this journey, lost in the depths of UCAS, or you’re looking to launch an exciting project of your own, the Next Steps Network is open and ready to listen.

PLATFORM

Lab Associates

The Lab Associates programme is a year-long attachment to Theatre Royal Plymouth. Each year we take up to four new Lab Associate companies and artists.

Lab Associates are paid a fee and invited to make full use of the Theatre’s spaces, resources, and people to develop new work for Platform; a two week showcase of new work in The Drum.
