Today (14 November), Theatre Royal Plymouth has launched its annual fundraising appeal, to support its community projects and keep them running in 2023.

Theatre Royal Plymouth works with people from all walks of life, from schoolchildren to local artists, disabled adults to people who have faced challenges including homelessness and mental health issues.

TRP has ran 45 different community projects in 2022, helping participants to boost their confidence, build friendships and develop key skills.

James Mackenzie-Blackman, Chief Executive of Theatre Royal Plymouth, said: “With rising energy bills, and with the cost-of-living crisis beginning to impact TRP, our annual appeal is crucial to our future success.

“Anyone with the capacity to give can be assured that their donations will enable us to reach some of the most vulnerable members of our community and to support us bringing joy to the people of Plymouth and further afield.”

One Young Company participant said: “It’s a really valuable chance to meet new friends and meet new people.”

An Our Space participant added: “It gives me a feeling of belonging and friendship. It stops me from feeling lonely.”

  • In 2022, TRP has led 45 individual projects
  • The theatre has run over 1,400 sessions online and in person in 2022
  • More than 6,000 participants have engaged in TRP’s projects so far this year
  • In 2022, more than 3,600 children have been involved in the theatre’s projects
