If you asked me about Company 15, I’d say one thing: never underestimate power.
The power of theatre to bring stories to life.
The power you have to make a real impact in the arts.
The power your hopes and dreams have to push you forward.
And most importantly, the power of spending a week with some really great, like-minded people.
During my time here, I’ve laughed, cried (happy tears!), felt inspired, and worked hard. And every second has been completely worth it.
If you had told me a year ago that I’d have the opportunity to experience working at TR2 and TRP, I wouldn’t have believed you! It was an unforgettable experience that I will remember for a lifetime. Exploring every department of the theatre was a dream come true and the connections I’ve made will hopefully last for years to come. Over the course of the week, I learned so much, not just about theatre, but about myself. Every time we stepped into a new department, I was in awe of the hard work and collaboration it takes to put on a single show. Seeing the different projects also reminded me how theatre brings many people together working in harmony to bring a performance to life.
My favourite experiences were working front of house, learning about stage management and getting hands-on with costumes. I enjoyed connecting with others, making new friends and discovering why members of staff love their job. I learned that working at TRP gives everyone a safe and welcoming space for everyone to work in.
Company 15 enabled me to think about different roles in the theatre that I may have not considered before. Meanwhile, my interest in stage management grew through looking backstage in the Lyric and calling out lighting cues to sheet music. I also enjoyed ushering and talking to people on the job. Getting to experience first hand the public coming to TRP allowed me to gain communication skills by talking to theatre attendees, growing my confidence while scanning tickets, working under pressure when you have a long line of people waiting for ice cream during the interval and being able to serve them politely and with a smile! This week helped me be extremely creative while improving my quick thinking and teamwork skills. When we came up with pitches as producers, I was able to see the wonders you can create if you put your mind to it with a team! I also enjoyed sorting and carrying costumes to relevant dressing rooms. I liked being organised to help me work quickly to complete a task well.
Company 15 was truly was a life-changing experience and none of it would have happened without Amy, Dawid, and the incredible staff at TR2 and TRP. I am forever thankful. I know all 16 of us will carry these memories and friendships with us as we continue our journey into the world of theatre.
