Following its signing of the Armed Forces Covenant, Theatre Royal Plymouth (TRP) has been presented with the scheme’s Bronze Award for its commitment to support all those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces and their families.

In November, TRP Chief Executive and Executive Producer, James Mackenzie-Blackman, officially signed the covenant in front of senior members of the region’s military services. The nationally recognised Bronze Award, part of the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme, goes a step further in cementing this pledge and ensuring TRP acknowledges the value of the contribution made by those serving.

The Covenant is a channel for voluntary and charitable bodies and private organisations to officially recognise the sacrifices that individuals make as a result of their duty. This extends to the families of serving members who play a vital role in supporting the operational effectiveness of the UK’s Armed Forces.

The Covenant signing runs alongside TRP’s Our Space programme which is currently celebrating its 15th anniversary and centres around four key strands of work including the Armed Forces. Funded by the Veterans’ Foundation, this element provides weekly workshops for service personnel, veterans and long-term wounded, injured and sick, using drama as a tool to build confidence, whilst learning theatre skills in a fun and supportive environment.
