Theatre Royal Plymouth (TRP) has announced it will once again run its hugely popular season of workshops for young people, Young Company, in 2025. The community project will begin in the New Year and run weekly sessions over a 10 week course for anyone aged two to 25 interested in getting involved with theatre.

Tiny Tales, sponsored by Associated British Ports, runs magical, interactive theatre storytelling sessions where 2 – 4 year olds and their grown-ups can explore enchanting stories together. Through songs, movement, and hands-on play, little ones will engage their imaginations while building language and social skills in a fun, welcoming environment. A perfect bonding experience for families to enjoy the world of theatre!

Creative Adventures provides a theatre workshop designed for 5 – 7 year olds. Through fun games, storytelling, and role-playing, children will explore new worlds, develop confidence, and unleash their creativity in a playful, supportive environment. Perfect for young adventurers eager to make new friends and express themselves.

Theatre Making Exchange allows young people to explore a diverse range of theatre skills through hands-on sessions with expert guest facilitators. From storytelling and writing to actor training, comedy, set and costume design, and technical and stage management, this course offers a unique opportunity to learn, create, and provide feedback to shape future classes. Aimed at aspiring writers, actors, designers, or stage managers, this is an ideal platform to dive into the world of theatre and develop new skills in a supportive, dynamic environment.

Young Company Create, sponsored by The Emerald Group, is a course for young people with additional needs that offers a creative and supportive space to explore self-expression through drama, movement, and storytelling. Tailored to individual abilities, the sessions foster confidence, communication, and social skills while allowing participants to build meaningful connections and ensures every voice is heard and celebrated.

Young Company was established in 1996 and has grown over the years to encompass a host of ages and abilities. The project always sees huge demand and culminates in an end of term show, which is sponsored by Womble Bond Dickinson.

TRP Head of Planning, Projects, Jane Pawson, said: “Young Company is such an important programme for those who are interested in a career within the arts, or who just enjoy theatre and need an outlet for their talent. The weekly sessions give these young people a chance to engage with likeminded individuals and make friends, while also developing key skills.

“The courses do fill quickly, so we’d encourage anyone who has a child interested, to book early to secure their place.”
