Into the Woods is a Tony Award-winning musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine that blends several Brothers Grimm fairy tales, including Cincerella, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Little Red Riding Hood, with the story of a childless Baker and his Wife. The first act follows these characters as they go into the woods to fulfill their wishes, with everyone seemingly achieving their desires, but the second act reveals the dark consequences of their selfishness and greed, leading to disaster and forcing the characters to take responsibility for their actions.
Why would you go into the woods? To sell the cow? To visit mother? To see the King? To lift the Spell? In Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s brilliantly written musical, the Baker, the Baker’s Wife, the Witch, Jack, Little Red Ridinghood, Cinderella and Rapunzel take us beyond happy ever after to discover what really matters.
