Bakani Pick-Up and Richard Chappell Dance | CO-LAB Masterclass

Join Bakani Pick-Up for KALANGA, an improvisation practice weaving Zimbabwean and Western dance forms. The practice works through curiosity, sensation, and action, treating space as something constantly shapable. The session invites a collective exploration of a diverse palette of what movement can be and how we can work with it—venturing into rhythm, articulation, and imagination – in ways that open questions rather than seek solutions. The aim is to prioritise diverse ways of being, resisting ‘right’ ways of being, and allowing freedom and identity to emerge in the dancing. This is an invitation to listen deeply, move boldly, and let the unknown become part of your movement vocabulary.

Richard Chappell Dance is thrilled to be working with Theatre Royal Plymouth to present this workshop for local and regionally-based dance artists in Plymouth and the South West. The workshop will be led by Bakani Pick-Up, Commissioned Artist , RCD Supporting Acts programme.
