In collaboration with Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, participants will explore the unique aspects of New Adventures’ work, style and training, focussing on technique, storytelling and creativity in workshops themed around physicality, expression, gesture and character relationships through games and activities.
We take pride in nurturing new and emerging dancers, so you don’t need to have any dance background to join this course, just a love of movement and a willingness to try something new.
We don’t want costing of sessions to be a barrier, please get in touch with us.

Introducing our dance teachers...

Steph Jenner
Steph Jenner studied BA (Hons) Dance at the University of Chichester, after which she completed a PGCE at the University of Exeter and graduated with a Masters Degree specialising in Teaching and Learning from the University of Kent. Steph was appointed at Plympton Academy as Head of Dance to launch the subject as an artistic discipline within the curriculum. As the Lead Practitioner of Dance she has ignited a passion for the subject across all year groups; with extensive uptake in extracurricular classes and examination pathways in BTEC at Level 2 and Level 3.
Steph’s preferred style is rooted in Contemporary, particularly release-based technique. Her enthusiasm for storytelling and creativity comes from her training with New Adventures through the Overture programme and connection with the company through the legacy work with Theatre Royal Plymouth. Stephanie is most excited to work with young people across the City who have a passion and ambition to collaborate and find joy in movement. Exploring storytelling through the body and learning how to craft and present intention, all with a love and joy at the heart of every action.

Sapphire Sumpter
Sapphire Sumpter is a freelance dancer, choreographer and workshop facilitator. Growing up in Cornwall, she then moved to London to train at vocational ballet school, followed by Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance BA(Hons).
Alongside performing, choreographing and directing her dance company, Sapphire regularly teaches Contemporary dance & classical ballet around Cornwall, including as a guest teacher and a mentor for students wishing to become professional dancers. Last year she joined Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures as the Regional Dance Ambassador for Plymouth – bringing opportunities for young people to experience Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake in collaboration with Theatre Royal Plymouth.
Sapphire is excited to continue this work with TRP and New Adventures to bring more inclusive and joyous dance opportunities to young people in Plymouth this year.
Her favourite part about facilitating is seeing young people gain in confidence and experience the joy of dancing!
