Theatre Royal Plymouth has announced a number of changes to its Board of Trustees.

After serving her whole three-year term as Chair of the Board, Dame Darcey Bussell is transitioning to a new role as TRP’s Patron. Dame Darcey plays a pivotal role in guiding the organisation, bringing her extensive experience in the arts and strong advocacy for cultural engagement. She will continue her relationship with the theatre as a Patron, supporting its mission and championing its work both locally and nationally.

Bronwen Lacey has also retired from her position as Vice Chair after nearly 14 years of service. Bronwen has made an invaluable contribution to the Board over many years, providing insight and leadership throughout her Trusteeship.

The Board is pleased to announce that Devon-born James Pidgeon (Executive Director, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre) will step into the role of Chair on an interim basis, ahead of the conclusion of his term as a Trustee. Having been a Trustee since 2017, James brings continuity and a strong understanding of the organisation as the Board undertakes a process to identify a permanent Chair.

In addition, Hannah Sloggett has been appointed Vice Chair. Hannah has been a Trustee since 2022 and brings valuable expertise and perspective to the role as Co-Director of Nudge Community Builders in Plymouth.

Theatre Royal Plymouth is also pleased to welcome three new Trustees to its Board, bringing a breadth of experience across education, the arts, and finance.

Rachel Hutchinson joins the Board with a strong background in education and a passion for the arts. As Principal of Ivybridge Community College and a senior leader within Westcountry Schools Trust, she has championed access to high-quality cultural education and built partnerships that support young people to thrive. Her early experiences in dance and sport underpin her commitment to creativity and opportunity for all.

Dr James Woodhams brings experience across the theatre sector and higher education. He is currently Head of Training at Kindling Ventures, supporting researchers and academics to generate real-world impact. With a PhD in Theatre for Young Audiences and a professional background in theatre, he offers a valuable perspective that connects creative practice with innovation and development.

Jon Sparkes joins with extensive financial and governance expertise. A Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser, he is a Tax Director at Westcotts Chartered Accountants & Business Advisers. He has significant experience advising charities, including theatres, and brings particular knowledge of Theatre Tax Credits, alongside previous governance experience as former Chair of the Devon Cricket Foundation.

Together, these new Trustees bring complementary skills and perspectives to support continued strategic growth and development for Theatre Royal Plymouth, whose full Board includes: James Pidgeon (Chair), Hannah Sloggett (Vice Chair), Alastair Coomer CDG, Andy Ibbs, Angie Bual, Dawn Bebe, Emma Huxham, James Woodhams, Jon Sparkes, Julie Nash, Lynda Grzelinkski, Rachel Hutchinson, Samra Said, Sarah Fysh, Sarah McAdam and Shona Godefroy
