Theatre Royal Plymouth (TRP) has been shortlisted in the National Cleaning Excellence Awards for its continued commitment to sustainability and increased efforts to source innovative cleaning solutions.

The National Cleaning Excellence Awards shine a light on the professional cleaning and hygiene sector and recognise companies and individuals leading the way with pioneering technology and industrious personnel.

TRP is among eight finalists in the Sustainable Company Of The Year category including The Vegan Cleaning Co. Ltd and Bauer Consultants. Companies shortlisted in other categories include Cleanology in conjunction with Buckingham Palace and GSA’s Hygiene Team for its work with Selfridges.

TRP has invested heavily in environmentally friendly policies and equipment in its bid to become green, including a new Tersano system introduced across both the theatre and its TR2 Production & Learning Centre. The advanced biofriendly Tersano solutions offer a safe, sustainable and long-lasting way to clean and disinfect large public spaces without using harmful chemicals. The theatre has also undergone a complete building management system upgrade and new washing machines and tumble driers have been installed removing the need for single-use disposable materials. New gas loggers have improved data collection and accuracy of usage, while backpack hoovers save time between intervals and shows and reduce carbon impact. LED lighting, radiator upgrades and sensor taps are also all culminating in reducing the theatre’s carbon impact.

John Spreadbridge, Head of Estates at Theatre Royal Plymouth, said: “Theatre Royal Plymouth is committed to ensuring we are fundamentally an environmentally sustainable company, through good product choices, internal innovation and prior planning. At TRP, we believe that every person and every business can, and should, make a difference in shaping a greener world.”

TRP is now working towards installing solar panels and a District Heat Exchange system. Winners of the National Cleaning Excellence Awards will be announced during the Cleaning Excellence Conference at the Coventry Building Society Arena on the 06 December.
