Theatre Royal Plymouth (TRP) has announced the total from its Festive Appeal has reached an incredible £23,900 which will go towards supporting the theatre’s community and engagement projects. The annual fundraising campaign was launched at the end of October to coincide with the world premiere of TRP’s co-production of Tom Fletcher’s The Creakers, and ran throughout the run of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Concluding at the end of the pantomime, the fundraising total is the culmination of bucket collections at the theatre, customers adding donations when purchasing tickets and donations made online or in person via donation points around the theatre.

As a registered charity, TRP supports local emerging artists pursuing a career in the industry and works with some of the most vulnerable people in the community. The Festive Appeal was created in 2016 and plays a vital role in ensuring TRP can continue this mission to engage with, and inspire, young and vulnerable people in the community and assist in developing core life skills, building confidence and enhancing mental health. A donation of £10 can pay for a student from a local school to see a performance at TRP, many of whom have never been to the theatre.

Last year’s appeal raised over £20,000, which helped to support ongoing programmes throughout 2024, as well as one-off projects and workshops.

Jane Pawson, Head of Artistic Planning, Projects at TRP, said: “The Festival Appeal is a crucial part of our annual fundraising efforts, and significantly supports our programme of community work. To raise nearly £24,000 is truly incredible and we thank every person who added a donation to their booking, used a donation point around the building or dropped some spare change into one of our collection buckets after the pantomime. We appreciate that times are tough for many, which makes everyone’s generosity even more poignant.

“We now look ahead to an extensive outreach programme throughout 2025, many of which have already started their new term.”
