Theatre Royal Plymouth are delighted to announce the appointment of James Greenacre who will take up the role of Director of External Affairs in September, joining the theatre’s Executive team.
James joins TRP from Plymouth Argyle Football Club where he has spent the majority of his business career. Currently Argyle’s Head of Commercial, James has played a crucial role as the club returned to prominence with a model for financial sustainability and record-breaking revenues. He is also a Director of the Devon & Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, the largest network of businesses in the Southwest, following his election in 2021.
Originally from Surrey, James has been an adopted Devonian for more than half of his life and has a love of the city that will see him thrive in his new role. He has a reputation in the region for forging effective relationships, both internally and externally, and delivering collaborative, multi-partner projects.
His business strategy, events management and customer service skills will help TRP to deepen relationships with existing audiences, build new audiences and continue to drive the theatres ambition to make TRP a place for everyone.
This role will see James lead on TRP’s customer engagement strategy and will work closely with existing teams to steer the successful delivery of strategic objectives from reputational, reach and revenue perspectives.
James Greenacre said: “I am incredibly excited, and honoured, to begin this new chapter as Director of External Affairs at TRP. A lot of parallels can be drawn between the performing arts and my current world of professional sport – and I believe both sectors are platforms to unify, develop and inspire people. I can’t wait to contribute to the future success of TRP and look forward to helping strengthen the impact and growth of performing arts in the region through our work both on and off the stage.”
Chief Executive and Executive Producer at TRP, James Mackenzie-Blackman, said: “All of us are really looking forward to James joining our executive team. Throughout the recruitment process he demonstrated a clear understanding of the role TRP plays in the life of our city and region. At Argyle James has built, and grown, fantastic commercial partnerships and has contributed to significant business growth. James’ new role will lead all our teams that oversee how TRP works and communicates with our audiences, visitors, partners and supporters and he brings significant ideas and opportunities for development.”
