Work Experience

We aim to offer some great work experience opportunities across the Theatre Royal Plymouth for anyone who is considering a career within the theatre/ arts sector.

For anyone over the age of 18, we run a programme called 18Plus. In the past this has taken the form of bespoke placements, responding to the requests of individuals or fixed opportunities that have been advertised for all to apply. We’re currently working out the best way to way to offer as many opportunities as we can to as many people as possible. We’re taking some time towards the end of 2022 alongside the theatre’s Creative Renewal to finalise the details of our 18Plus work experience programme, further details will be released as soon as details have been finalised. Watch this space!

For anyone under the age of 18, we’re unable to offer individual placements, due to the large number of requests we receive but we have something even better! We’ve formulated a specific week for 15 young people between the ages of 14 and 17 called Company15. Over the course of a 5-day week, Company15 participants will work with staff from across the organisation both in the Theatre Royal Plymouth and at our Production and Learning Centre, TR2 in Cattedown. The group will be set a series of tasks throughout the week that are related to a play (usually the performance in The Drum at the time) or will take part in creative workshops where team members from different departments will share different aspects of their jobs alongside apprentice style tasks.

COMPANY15 is for any Year 10 – 13 students aged 14 – 17, especially for those who are really interested in or studying Theatre, Design, Technical or Arts related subjects or would like to pursue a career in the theatre industry. We cannot take anyone under the age of 14.

Our next COMPANY15 dates for 2023 are: Sat 24 June 2023 > Fri 30 June 2023 nb: Work experience will consist of 5 days between the dates stated. Exact days will be confirmed closer to the time.

Applications for this year’s Company15 programme are now closed.

We are unable to consider any applications submitted after the deadline (of Monday 16th January 2023). All those who applied will be invited to attend a workshop interview and will be contacted by the Company15 team.

Once the workshop interviews have taken place, the final 15 young people will be chosen to take part in this year’s work experience week.
