‘My name is Beowulf. And I am a King.
At the end of this tale, I’ll go to fight a dragon. And I will be no more.’
In the Northland, King Beowulf is about to leave his home and go on a journey to save the people of Heorot from a terrifying monster. A monster that sneaks into their home and steals them from their beds. But what makes a good king? A good leader?
TRP’s Young Company returns with a new production of Beowulf, written by Chris Thorpe. This vibrant new production, directed by Stephanie Kempson, is a blisteringly relevant retelling of an ancient story that promises beautiful lyrical storytelling, ensemble movement, puppetry, choral singing and heavy metal.
Beowulf was initially adapted from an Old English poem, of the same title, written by Anglo-Saxon poet. The original production was commissioned and staged by the Unicorn Theatre and TRP’s Young Company are thrilled to breath a new life into it.
Young Company provides an inclusive, supportive environment where young people can hone their skills and pursue their passions. It is about giving young people the chance to express themselves, build confidence, and most importantly, have fun with theatre. We love meeting the next generation of creatives to discover and develop their talents with us.
Our Young Company Show is supported by Womble Bond Dickinson.
