We are ready to kickstart 2024 and this year will see a wide range of exciting and spectacular shows, including Disney’s Aladdin, the magical Life of Pi, the new production of Wizard of Oz and the enchanting ballet, The Sleeping Beauty.

2024 will also see two huge TRP co-productions in The Artist and The Devil Wears Prada, which are not to be missed!

Aladdin, The Lyric, 17 January – 11 February (6+)

One lamp, three wishes and infinite possibilities… Disney’s spectacular Broadway and West End musical ALADDIN comes to Theatre Royal Plymouth in January 2024!

Escape to a whole new world and experience this extraordinary theatrical event already seen by over 14 million people worldwide.

Featuring the iconic music by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice – this exuberant production is filled with unforgettable magic, comedy and breathtaking spectacle!

 

The Drifters Girl, The Lyric, 13 – 17 February (10+)

Nominated for ‘Best New Musical’ at the 2022 Olivier Awards, this smash-hit show has audiences on their feet night after night with a phenomenal soundtrack packed full of iconic Drifters hits including Saturday Night At The Movies, Save The Last Dance For Me and Stand By Me.

Discover the remarkable story of The Drifters and the truth about the woman who made them. From the highs of hit records to the lows of legal battles and personal tragedy, Faye Treadwell was the legendary manager of The Drifters who refused to give up on the group she loved.

Thirty years, and hundreds of hit songs later, there is no doubt that Faye Treadwell was and always will be, The Drifters Girl.

 

São Paulo, The Lyric, 23 – 24 February (12+)

Brazil’s finest dance company make their highly anticipated UK and Irish debut in spring 2024.

Fusing the elegance of classical ballet with the sensuality of Latin American dance, this ‘sleek, sexy and highly technical’ (The New Yorker) company of virtuoso dancers present a rich programme of work from three choreographers rooted in Latin American or Spanish culture.

Goyo Montero (resident choreographer with Carlos Acosta’s company Acosta Danza) explores the idea of collective identities in Anthem, an epic and emotionally charged ensemble piece for 14 dancers, beautifully staged with dramatic lighting.

Gnawa, by Spanish choreographer Nacho Duato draws on the Mediterranean colours and flavours of Valencia, powered by the hypnotic, ritualistic music of North Africa.

Brazilian choreographer Cassi Abranches’ colourful and flirtatious Agora provides an exhilarating finale. Exploring time and rhythm, she sculpts the movement of each dancer’s body with the percussive beats and bass grooves of Afro-Brazilian fusion.

 

Life of Pi, The Lyric, 05 – 09 March (8+)

Based on the best-selling book by Yann Martel, the five-star hit show comes to Plymouth.

Winner of five Olivier Awards, including Best New Play, and three Tony Awards! After conquering the West End and Broadway, the ‘theatrical phenomenon’ (Telegraph) embarks on its biggest adventure yet.

Jaw-dropping visuals and world-class puppetry combine in a unique and ‘breath-taking’ (The Times) theatrical event that is ‘a wonder to behold’ (Daily Mail).

After an epic storm in the Pacific Ocean, Pi is stranded on a lifeboat with four other survivors – a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan, and a Royal Bengal tiger.

The Sleeping Beauty, The Lyric, 20 – 23 March (5+)

Cursed by a wicked fairy, a beautiful princess pricks her finger and falls into a deep sleep that can only be broken by true love’s kiss.

The Sleeping Beauty has been delighting audiences for well over a hundred years, sprinkling ballet magic on this favourite childhood story and its cast of familiar characters. And all wrapped up with sparkling virtuoso dance from BRB’s brilliant dancers, fairy-tale characters, dazzling spectacle, and Tchaikovsky’s glorious music played live by the acclaimed Royal Ballet Sinfonia.

BRB’s beautiful production was created by Sir Peter Wright, the genius behind the Company’s famous The Nutcracker and Swan Lake.

The Wizard of Oz, The Lyric, 26 – 30 March (12+)

Direct from The London Palladium, the sensational new production of one of the world’s most beloved musicals comes to Plymouth.

Starring RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner and Dancing On Ice star The Vivienne as The Wicked Witch Of The West, this spectacular production will be truly magical for all the family.

Featuring the iconic original score from the Oscar-winning MGM film including Over The Rainbow, Follow The Yellow Brick Road and We’re Off To See The Wizard with additional songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.

Join Dorothy, Toto, and friends on an unforgettable adventure down the yellow brick road to the merry old land of Oz.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, The Lyric, 01 – 06 April (12+)

Following a record-breaking three-year West End residency, sold-out UK & Ireland Tour and Amazon studios award-winning film, the smash-hit and critically acclaimed musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie comes to Plymouth.

Come From Away, The Lyric, 09 – 13 April (10+)

 7,000 Stranded Passengers.  One Small Town.  A Remarkable True Story.

Winner of four Olivier Awards including Best New Musical in London and the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical on Broadway, this smash hit show shares the incredible real-life story of the 7,000 air passengers from all over the world who were grounded in Canada during the wake of 9/11, and the small Newfoundland community that invited these ‘come from aways’ into their lives with open hearts.

Experience this joyous story and soaring music as spirited locals and global passengers come together to forge friendships that will stay with them forever. The first female American Airlines captain, the quick-thinking town mayor, the mother of a New York firefighter and the eager local news reporter are among the many real characters caught at the start of the moment that changed the course of history and whose stories became a true celebration of hope, humanity and unity.

 

Pretty Woman: The Musical, The Lyric, 15 – 20 April  

Big night out. Big. HUGE. Pretty Woman: The Musical is finally embarking on a UK and Ireland tour – so make a date to see Hollywood’s ultimate rom-com, live on stage, when this smash-hit musical visits Plymouth in April 2024!

Once upon a time in the late ’80s, Vivian met Edward and her life changed forever. Be swept up in their romance in this dazzlingly theatrical take on a love story for the ages – and get to know these iconic characters in a whole new way – in a sensational show that took London’s West End by storm, guaranteed to lift your spirits and light up your heart.

 

The Artist, The Lyric, 11 – 25 May

In 1920s Hollywood the business of making dreams come true is in full swing.

Silent movie icon George Valentin has long been the darling of the silver screen when he falls for aspiring actress Peppy Miller. But while her star is about to rise, his might soon flicker out: amidst all the glamour, laughter and romance, the silent movie industry is on the brink of a revolution. With the Talkies on their way, George must either find his voice in a brave new world or lose everything he holds dear to a bygone era.

The Artist will star multi award-winning international dancer and actor Robbie Fairchild as George Valentin, West End favourite Gary Wilmot as Al Zimmer, and introducing Briana Craig (42nd Street tour) as Peppy Miller.

The Artist has mesmerised film audiences across the world for over a decade, winning five Academy Awards, seven BAFTAs and three Golden Globe Awards. Now the beguiling love story is reinvented for the stage in a dazzling celebration of silent cinema that blends cutting-edge theatre-making with iconic music of the period.

Michel Hazanavicius’ gloriously funny and tender film is co-adapted by acclaimed writer Lindsey Ferrentino alongside director and Olivier Award-winning choreographer Drew McOnie. Set and Costume Designs are by Christopher Oram, Music by Simon Hale, Lighting by Zoe Spurr, Sound by Simon Baker, Video by Ash Woodward, Puppetry by Maia Kirkman-Richards and Casting by Will Burton CDG.

Based on the original film by Michel Hazanavicius. Co-adapted for the stage by Lindsey Ferrentino and Drew McOnie. Directed and choreographed by Drew McOnie. The Devil Wears Prada, The Lyric, 06 July – 17 August

Gird your loins! The Devil Wears Prada, a new musical, struts into Plymouth for an exclusive pre-West End season in July 2024!

The Devil Wears Prada is a new musical based on the blockbuster film and bestselling novel and features an original score by music legend Elton John, lyrics by Shaina Taub, a book by Kate Wetherhead and direction & choreography by 3-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde, Pretty Woman, Hairspray).

Fresh out of college, aspiring journalist Andy scores a job at the prestigious Runway magazine working for fashion’s most powerful and terrifying icon — editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly. Sacrificing her personal life to meet Miranda’s impossible demands, Andy finds herself seduced by the glamorous world she once despised.

How far will she go to succeed… and will it be worth selling her soul to get what she’s always wanted?

& Juliet, The Lyric, 01 – 05 October (12+)

There is life after Romeo!

Get whisked away on a fabulous journey as Juliet ditches her famous ending for a fresh beginning and a second chance at life and love—her way. Created by the Emmy-winning writer from “Schitt’s Creek,” this hilarious new musical flips the script on the greatest love story ever told and asks, what would happen next if Juliet didn’t end it all over Romeo?

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Lyric, 13 December – 11 January 2025
