8-11s have the chance to step behind the scenes of professional theatre.

In an exciting partnership with the National Theatre and the Unicorn Theatre, we are running a week-long workshop where young people become official Creative Associates for a brand-new production of The Last Wild heading to The Drum next year.

This is a unique alternative to our usual Young Company workshops. Rather than creating and rehearsing a play, participants work alongside Theatre Royal Plymouth practitioners and London theatre professionals, acting as creative experts to directly influence a professional show.

From Our Workshop to the Rehearsal Room

Throughout the week, the group will tackle creative challenges set by the production teams at the Unicorn Theatre. Using a mix of things such as bold visual art, zines, and audio recordings, they will build a rich collection of ideas, opinions and research.

At the end of the week, their work is sent directly to the professional cast and crew in London. It will be displayed proudly on the rehearsal room wall, sitting right alongside the director’s early notes, so the actors can use the participants’ actual voices and perspectives to guide them through their first week of rehearsals.

Why Your Young Person Should Join

It’s not every day young people get to see their own thoughts and artwork travel straight from a workshop into a professional rehearsal room in London and onto our stage. It’s an unforgettable week of building confidence, collaborating with new friends, and discovering that young voices truly matter in the professional theatre world.
