An evening of exhilarating dance, live folk music and the joy of being part of something, Us Folk brings fresh energy to old traditions.

Richard Chappell Dance brings contemporary dance, folk, ballet and improvisation together in a performance full of warmth and energy. Larch’s bold electronic score meets live folk songs, poetry by Saili Katebe and samples from the Treorchy Male Voice Choir, whose credits include Tom Jones and Ozzy Osbourne.

Folk musicians Ben Moss, guitarist for Grace Petrie, and Maz McNamara are woven into the choreography, bringing the welcoming spirit of a ceilidh—a gathering where people dance together to live music.

Inspired by Dartmoor’s landscapes, Us Folk asks how we look after the land and each other. There’s something quietly powerful about sharing music and movement: the warmth of good company, the energy of people coming together, and something to carry home. As one audience member put it: “this brought me back to the point of it all.”

Richard Chappell Dance has previously collaborated with the Royal Ballet and Opera and BBC Arts.
