Previews begin 11 May, before the world premiere on 20 May

The stage is set. Theatre Royal Plymouth (TRP) is ready to transport audiences to 1920s Hollywood as its eagerly anticipated co-production of The Artist arrives in the city.

The brand-new stage adaptation of the iconic 2011 film has been co-produced by Theatre Royal Plymouth with The McOnie Company, and opens for previews on 11 May, before officially opening 20 May.

South West audiences will be the first in the world to watch the beguiling show that stars international award-winning dancer and actor, Robbie Fairchild, West End and TRP favourite Gary Wilmot, and upcoming star, Briana Craig. The show is based on the original Oscar-winning film by Michel Hazanavicius and tells the tale of silent Hollywood star, George Valentin, falling from grace as the talkies arrive. As George’s reputation dims, upcoming performer Peppy Miller becomes the voice of a new generation that George can’t compete with. Embracing ballet, jazz, period music, film and projection, the dazzling new show has been co-adapted for the stage by Lindsey Ferrentino and Drew McOnie and directed and choreographed by Drew McOnie.

The Artist has long been mesmerising film audiences across the world, winning five Academy Awards, seven BAFTAs and three Golden Globe Awards and now theatre audiences can experience the charismatic love story live on the stage. Tickets for The Artist are available now at www.theatreroyal.com/whats-on/the-artist/. The strictly limited run at TRP begins on Saturday 11 May until Saturday 25 May 2024.
